Zur schwäbischen Jungfrau

The name "Zur Schwäbischen Jungfrau" refers to the origins of this store's founders, who migrated to Vienna from Swabia in the early 18th century. Ever since its inception 300 years ago, Zur Schwäbischen Jungfrau has been known for its huge selection of customized textiles and quality fabrics. This is the place that once upon a time supplied Empress Maria Teresia with a monogram handkerchief, and later on made bed covers for Sissi. In 1959, Zur Schwäbischen Jungfrau was handed over to the lovely Mrs. Hanni Vanicek, who had begun her career as an apprentice in the store. Among her many triumphs, Vanicek was contracted to furnish the palace of the King of Malaysia, a task which included providing a table set large enough to accommodate 900 potential dinner guests! Almost every item sold here can be modified in the on-site tailor shop to suit your personal home-furnishing wishes. The vast selection of fabrics spans three floors and includes everything from wall-hangings to bath robes, all produced by a few, select companies that have collaborated with Zur Schwäbischen Jungfrau for many years. This place is so enmeshed in Vienna's history that the Jungferngasse, a tiny street leading to Petersplatz, was named after the store.Show lessRead more
