The Vienna Store

Souvenir shops are never cool, but The Viennastore defies this rule. Opening its flagship store in early 2014, The Viennastore is more of a gift shop where Vienna’s modern day personality is the brand that inspires the shelves packed with merchandise. It’s no surprise that rows of books - about, from, or set in Vienna - can be found here, seeing as the shop is the lovechild of the owners of Metroverlag, a local publishing company. Also on display is an array of inventive, imaginative and unconventional souvenirs, like the ‘Please Do Not Disturb – I’m dreaming of Vienna’ door knob hang tag, or the beautiful, stout wine glasses unique to the city’s heurigens (translation: wine tavern). You could even imagine proud locals buying quirky gifts here, for instead of kitschy mugs with Mozart’s profile on them, this place sells items that reflect Vienna’s real personality and creative side. While some products are sourced from local designers, many of the funky designs, like the Wiener Schnitzel plates, are created by The Viennastore itself. And if you’re looking for a unique postcard, which expresses more accurately what real Vienna is apart from its wedding cake architecture and classical music reputation, this is the place to go.Show lessRead more
