Song is a boutique and gallery with an ever-changing selection of clothing, accessories, design furniture and art shows. Designed by star-architect Gregor Eichinger, this gigantic store-cum-event-space takes up more than 300 square meters. Owner Myung il Song, who studied design at the University for Applied Arts Vienna, is a firm believer in improvisation and chance, which perhaps explains her store's free-spirited feel and look. Together with Abe Orden from New York, Mrs. Song decided to establish her own in-house gallery by re-defining one of the store spaces. Carrying reputable brands such as Walter van Beirendonck, Paul Harnden Shoemakers, Dirk van Saene or Balenciaga, the fashion selection in Song is mostly, but not exclusively, dedicated to Belgian design. However, the furniture on display at the time of our visit was by Dutch designer Piete Hein Eek, and included an amazing desk made of glazed sheets of salvaged wood. All of the pre-war industrial furniture being used for display and decoration was also for sale. The gallery space has roughly four exhibitions annually, offering a platform for both established and up-and-coming artists to show their work. Song is a great symbiosis of all things design, and is worth a visit if you find yourself meandering through Vienna's 2nd district near the Donaukanal.Show lessRead more
