Owner Vivien Brandl worked for years at a Japanese bank, quietly carrying around the dream of opening her own clothing boutique. In October 2007, she made the leap and opened the doors to her shop at first sight on Kirchengasse. Brandl is whole heartedly involved in all matters of business – from store design to fostering relationships with designers and to frequent atelier visits. At first sight sells clothing and accessories by independent Austrian, German, Italian and Swiss labels, that Brandl scouts out at Fashion Weeks around Europe. A few of the local labels on offer include Mija T. Rosa, Büro Baumann, Katharina Schmid and Brandmaier. The store’s back room doubles as an exhibition space which hosts shows that blur the lines between fashion, design and fine art. When we visited this took the form of an exhibition by artist and shop employee Mario Kiesenhofer, featuring photographs of Sphinx show cats adorned with necklaces made out of fool’s gold by Büro Baumann. This finely considered boutique with seasonal selections of clothing ranging from fun to elegant is a tactile and visual treasure.Show lessRead more
