Ring King

Ring King inspires that cliché scenario where people launch into the story of how they bought their bauble in the quaint little shop, tucked away down the little cobble stone alley, when somebody notices it on their finger - and trust us, people will notice the Ring King’s rings. One of the few craftsmen in Vienna still making rings by hand, it seems jeweller and store owner Max Gruen’s signature designs dawned on him during a zoo visit - a cheeky monkey, an elephant, an octopus, a duck – we don’t know how he does it, but somehow he has managed to make these animals into rings. Now while this is the more whimsical side of Max’s work, he also crafts designs that combine the traditional and modern (both in style and artisanship) in a very bold and distinctive way. Opened in 2012, Max fell in love with the actual store (left dormant for years after the old typewriter shop that once lived there closed down) and the street it was on long before when he would walk past it on the way to his local pub. He believes being hidden away adds to the charm of the store. “It makes something more special when you have to go looking for it,” he says. Max also takes custom orders, and if you don’t see him working away at his workshop at the back of the shop, his number is on the door. Show lessRead more
