Returning to Vienna after having lived and worked as a graphic designer in Paris for the majority of her life, co-owner Mimi Hofmann opened Répertoire in November 2013. Within 9 months, Hofmann and company converted a run-down electronic appliance store into a spacious, bright and fun shop. With just a peek from the outside, one is immediately drawn in by the variety of colors and textures on display. According to Hofmann, Répertoire carries more than 1,640 products that are not just functional but have a sense of humor to boot. These include neon bouncy silly putty, Ferris wheel cookie cutters, cute animal lamps, bicycles, locally manufactured wooden iPad cases – the list is seemingly endless. Many of Répertoire’s products are manufactured with a mind to social conscientiousness and the owners like to support the local design scene – some of the greeting cards on display are actually printed within the same district. Treat your senses to this fun store and you may discover things you never knew existed. (Did you know you could buy a notebook made of stone? I didn’t).Show lessRead more

As chain stores fill the streetscape the world over, this project is a celebration of the independent retailer. All stores featured on Shopikon have been hand-picked by our editors who have visited thousands of stores, and only the best of the bunch make it into our guide.
