Printa is the name and printing is their game. The striking screen prints draping the walls of this establishment will have you gawking as you walk in. And what’s hanging on its racks out back will have any open-minded fashionista into the change rooms before they can say, "old-men’s-shirts-upcycled-into-women’s-dresses," or, "women’s handbag-made-from-John-Travolta’s-old-leather-jacket." Yes, this is another of the many designers in Vienna inspired by the concept of upcycling. While screen printing designs by all breeds of funky artists is what this store was born to do, its hobby is to repurpose used clothing into creative new designs. Opened on trendy Lindengasse in early 2013, Printa is the sister store to the original founded in Budapest, Hungary, where the print studio is located. Printa is no ordinary store, but rather a fashion design/gallery/recycling depot that makes the perfect blend of culture and commerce. With an art exhibition space downstairs, Printa sources the designs for their prints from the international array of artists it exhibits. Some of the prints even make it onto the t-shirts in store. Vienna’s store manager, Tom, says they are always on the lookout for local Austrian artists to work with. Oh, and everything in the store is for sale - even the furniture!Show lessRead more
