Market Vinyl

Fritz Plöckinger opened Market Vinyl in 2008 after the record store he previously worked at – Black Market – closed up shop. While his selection encompasses a variety of music including house, disco, soul and techno, his personal favorites are raw analog productions and small editions, so he also carries a selection of white labels. According to Plöckinger the shop's selection is intended to create easier access to genres that are underrepresented in Vienna. To this end he focuses on quality works that represent an international variety of recordings. He describes his role as that of a curator, and Market Vinyl's selection as his ever changing exhibition. The walls of this comfortably cozy shop are all black – perhaps to facilitate Plöckinger's aural rather than visual exhibitions – and it is equipped with two listening stations. Also keep an eye out for the lounge in the back, where customers can get a coffee while catching up on new stock.Show lessRead more
