Tucked alongside of Taborstraße, Karmelitermarkt is the largest outdoor food market of Vienna’s 2nd district. Traditionally a place to pick up fresh produce trucked in from predominantly local farms on the outskirts of Vienna, the market has recently evolved into a culinary hot-spot, as restaurants and cafes continue to pop up in and around the market. If you’re on a tight budget, rest assured that you can still find a good old-fashioned roasted chicken among the newer and more refined menus on offer. On warm days, the market is busy with lunch goers enjoying outdoor seating at one of the various establishments. It is not unusual to find an accordion player setting the mood reminiscent of lunch in a French romance movie. Many of Karmelitermarkt’s vendors offer organic meats, cheeses, eggs, fruits and vegetables. Kaas am Markt specializes in products from small Austrian farms and manufacturers, as well as serving a daily rotating lunch menu.Show lessRead more
