Duft und Kultur

Featuring a barrage of scents and an eclectic collection of paraphernalia combined with the look of a gift and homewares shop crossed with a pharmacy and children’s store, it’s hard to know what to make out of Duft und Kultur - but that’s the beauty of it! True to its name, which translates to Scent and Culture, here you’ll find traditional Austrian and Arabic slippers, beautiful Turkish bath towels, hand-made Moroccan silverware, African head sculptures and woven baskets, French designer pajamas and fine tea, sweet crocheted teddy bears and just about anything that would aptly be slipped into a gift basket. However, the other half of this store’s concept is where its heart lies: scent. Here they pride themselves in selling scents for individuals. Specializing in rare niche brand perfumes and soaps, particularly out of France (like the St Germain boutique label Diptyque), one is reminded that there is more to the world of fragrance than cheap bottles named after Italians, bad actors and pop stars. And with this place stocking more smells than a fish market, it’s a good idea to ask for advice from Lisa, the friendly store manager, who – from behind her cashier’s desk, surrounded by apothecary chests of drawers – will gladly prescribe a signature scent for you.  However, if you’d rather just browse feel free to do so. According to Lisa, “It’s like going on a mini-holiday.”Show lessRead more
