Die Sellerie

Die Sellerie is the creation of four young graphic designers who joined forces to realize a common dream. Patrick Bauer, Ulrike Dorner, Georg Leditzky and Andreas Posselt believed that there was something to the idea of running a store in which they sold their own handmade products. When a space on Vienna's bustling Burggasse became available, the idea became a reality. Roughly 80 percent of the Sellerie stock (wink, wink) is made up of handmade products. Here you will find pillows made from old clothing, bookmarks fashioned from the spines of recognizable tomes and endearingly rustic stuffed animals. There is also quite a bit in the way of stationary; the note pads and greeting cards are notable for their unique prints and design flair. Everything sold at Sellerie was made with an acute awareness of the history of the “ingredients.” Nothing was produced in a sweat shop and most items have been acquired under fair-trade regulations. This emphasis on the origin of products is consistent with Sellerie's small selection of victuals. They sell wine and honey made by local producers. Die Sellerie is only open Friday evenings and on Saturdays, since the owners all have full-time jobs as graphic designers.Show lessRead more
