XOX Truffles

You might miss this heavenly boutique if weren't for the vibrant blue and yellow sign bearing "Free Truffle" in the middle of the sidewalk on Columbus Avenue, but despite its unassuming exterior, XOX Truffles has remained a premiere destination for specialty chocolates in San Francisco. Founded by Chef Jean-Marc Gorce and wife Casimira Tobilla, XOX has been a labor of love since its inception in 1997 - a year before the store first opened its doors to the public. Specializing in artisanal French-style truffles, Chef Gorce has created dozens of unique chocolate bonbons to date. Featuring flavors like soy, peanut butter and rum raisin, each bite-size chocolate offers a delectable yet complex taste. A fully functional cafe as well, XOX offers hot chocolate and coffee - although it's the truffles that people always come back for. Try one yourself and it won't be hard to see why XOX Truffles has previously been awarded the Most Luxurious Chocolate Experience by the San Francisco International Chocolate Salon.Show lessRead more

As chain stores fill the streetscape the world over, this project is a celebration of the independent retailer. All stores featured on Shopikon have been hand-picked by our editors who have visited thousands of stores, and only the best of the bunch make it into our guide. We evaluate stores based on product selection, atmosphere, dedication to their specialty, and overall shopping experience, making sure that they are all worth your trip!
