The Pirate Store

San Francisco’s only store for pirates' supplies doesn’t disappoint. Whether it's black beard dye, rope for knot-tying, or maps of ancient waterways and worlds, all such treasures can be found here. But high sea necessities aren’t the only wares you’ll find inside. Books for children—in some cases made by them, too, plus critically acclaimed publications affiliated with the store such as McSweeney’s, The Believer, and more are for sale. The Pirate Supply Store is part of a larger network of shops and educational centers across the USA, operating under 826 National, a non-profit organization founded by writer Dave Eggers to provide students with opportunities to improve their writing and explore their creativity. The retail shop was opened because the building that the learning center was located in, was zoned for retail. Sales immediately took off and helped generate more revenue to support the free educational programming. Some of the store’s most popular products are “Scurvy Be Gone,”  “Mermaid Bait or Repellent” and some of the finest custom made hooks available.Show lessRead more
