Omnivore Books

If San Francisco is a town for foodies, then Omnivore Books is the bookstore for those foodies. Located just a half block from the J-Muni train line in the family friendly neighborhood of Noe Valley the store is a short train ride from downtown San Francisco. Owner Celia Sack transitioned from being a rare books specialist for an auction house to starting Omnivore Books in 2008. The store sells new, collectible, and antiquarian books–also known as rare. There is a large collection of titles that represent the Bay Area’s food movement, including many Alice Waters titles, as well as a wide range of other topics sorted by region, fish/meat, vegetarian, beverages, homesteading, a large selection of first editions of classics, and antique titles dating back into the mid-1800s. Omnivore Books frequently hosts book signings and international author events, not to mention the occasional food tasting contest.Show lessRead more

As chain stores fill the streetscape the world over, this project is a celebration of the independent retailer. All stores featured on Shopikon have been hand-picked by our editors who have visited thousands of stores, and only the best of the bunch make it into our guide. We evaluate stores based on product selection, atmosphere, dedication to their specialty, and overall shopping experience, making sure that they are all worth your trip!
