Homestead Apothecary

Homestead Apothecary began in 2011 as a wholesale line based in western Massachusetts that made the cross-country journey with founder Nicholas Weinstein, landing in Oakland’s Temescal Alley in 2013. Don’t be fooled by the name, though - the minimalist flagship store, nestled amongst other unique independent retailers, is a far cry from the musty medicinal shops of yesteryear. “I would say the apothecary, along with a lot of other specialty businesses [like] spice shops, butchers, and denim shops are making a big comeback,” says Weinstein. “People are tired of the one stop shop with landfill-bound sweatshop-made items. They want to talk with someone about their purchase who is an expert in their field and purchase something with integrity.” Featuring products like herbal teas and custom smoking blends, candles, essential oils, tinctures, soaps, lotions and more, Homestead Apothecary is a haven for the modern urbanite seeking natural wellness and homeopathic items and accessories. In addition to excellent customer service, the shop offers workshops on topics ranging from how to make some of the products that they sell to tarot readings, medicinal mushroom use and astrology. More than just a shop or even a lifestyle, Homestead Apothecary provides a community that celebrates individuality and promotes exploration of “the world outside of the one we can see.”Show lessRead more
