City Lights Bookstore

City Lights Bookstore could arguably be the most famous bookstore in the world. It’s most popular because of its association with the Beat generation. It has stayed relevant over the years with it’s publishing arm of the business as it continues to release new titles on political topics written by left-leaning thought leaders such as Noam Chomsky, Howard Zinn, and many others. The North Beach neighborhood bookstore is in a large building at a bustling intersection. The poetry section is upstairs, a magazine and fiction area in its center, and a sprawling non-fiction section is in the basement. The history of City Lights is all over the walls, especially in the basement where exposed bricks and ceiling play up the space’s age. Worn down graffiti about political unrest still stain the walls in certain places, and it’s easy to see why the store has remained in tact for so long.Show lessRead more
