Birch is more than your typical florist. Established in 2007, the shop feels more like a well-curated gallery, complete with live pieces of art and acute attention to detail, than a retailer. The walls of the shop are painted a rich black, offering a striking contrast to the lit rows of flowers, branches and plants. Each morning, owner Torryne Choate visits the local flower market to find interesting pieces to display and put together for clients. Along with the ever-changing rotation of flowers, Birch also offers selected magazines such as the French Jalouse and high-fashion AnOther. There are handmade soaps by Marfa Brand, In Fiore perfumes and handbags made from fabrics purveyed from Africa, all selected to complement the store and its flora. Although Birch already has a strong client base, don’t worry about just walking in - the shop prides itself on great customer care. Guided expertise will lead in the creation of thoughtful arrangements. Living art can be found at Birch – whether it’s in the space, the current display of flowers or having your piece come together in the moment.Show lessRead more

As chain stores fill the streetscape the world over, this project is a celebration of the independent retailer. All stores featured on Shopikon have been hand-picked by our editors who have visited thousands of stores, and only the best of the bunch make it into our guide. We evaluate stores based on product selection, atmosphere, dedication to their specialty, and overall shopping experience, making sure that they are all worth your trip!
