Amoeba Music

Nestled in the heart of Haight-Ashbury lies the all-encompassing Amoeba Music. Founded in May of 1990 by Marc Weinstein and Dave Prinz, the San Franciscan store was created with the sole purpose to “be your ultimate source for [musical] inspiration.” Priding themselves on extremely knowledgeable and personal staff, the store focuses on making available all the many genres and styles of music as diverse as the range of customers that come through the doors. Amoeba contains an astounding collection of music in all formats (LP, CD, 45, cassette, 8-track, 78) as well as DVD, Blu-Ray and video. There is a huge film selection attached to the main music storefront that also carries posters, t-shirts, turntables and related accessories for all kinds of music lovers and fans alike. Customers can participate in a “buy and sell,” making it possible for them to recycle their cultural artifacts in exchange for items more relevant to their current taste. Oftentimes Amoeba Music is busy taking an active role in its culturally diverse neighborhood of Haight-Ashbury by supporting community issues and local causes surrounding the love for music. This activism along with a sizable music base helps Amoeba to create a successful and more diverse inventory than any other store around.Show lessRead more
