When owner Jenny Chung founded Acrimony in 2008, it was to solve a problem. Acrimony, defined as a bitter distaste for something, was the answer to her dislike of the conventional that led her to construct a place to find unique, up-and-coming designers in one spot. At this Hayes Valley boutique, even the most casual of pieces take a cool, confident turn. You'll find a harmonious mix of updated closet staples and striking, avant-garde pieces, with slouchy essentials from Ann-Sofie Back stocked next to oversized coats from Kai-aakmann, plus plenty of unique accessories to pile on. For menswear Acrimony focuses on the utilitarian, with tailored button-ups from Robert Geller and sweatshirts from Reigning Champ hanging on the racks, and luxe T-shirts and tailored basics awaiting beyond the back door in the Men's Annex. Consider your wardrobe dilemma solved.Show lessRead more

As chain stores fill the streetscape the world over, this project is a celebration of the independent retailer. All stores featured on Shopikon have been hand-picked by our editors who have visited thousands of stores, and only the best of the bunch make it into our guide. We evaluate stores based on product selection, atmosphere, dedication to their specialty, and overall shopping experience, making sure that they are all worth your trip!
