Located in the swanky sixth arrondissement of Paris, the French flagship store of eclectic publishing house Taschen aims to entice with its sleek modernist façade and eye-popping displays of art books. Originally founded in Cologne, Germany in 1980 by Benedikt Taschen, the brand’s enduring legacy is built upon the democratization of art and finding a balance between easy accessibility and high quality. Sandwiched between the Seine and the busy shopping street Boulevard Saint-Germain, but also located near the Sorbonne, the store attracts a diverse but fiercely loyal mix of students, collectors, and tourists. Inside, books are organized by topic although the inventory constantly rotates to maintain an atmosphere of novelty. The Paris outlet, devised by French designer Philippe Starck, also doubles as editor’s showroom with a small gallery featuring photographic prints and limited edition books which is located towards the rear. Taschen’s dedication to making art available to everyone means that the store’s collection offers something for every budget.  Show lessRead more
