Pigalle

Slouchy streetwear, thousand-euro jackets, limited edition shoes - if you think that the mixed-bag selection at Pigalle was handpicked by a group of people with vastly opposing tastes in fashion, think again. Behind this eclectic collection stands Stephane Ashpool, a man who wears many hats himself: a self-taught fashion designer, basketball player and businessman. Pigalle, named after the district in Paris where Ashpool was raised, opened in 2008 in the 9th arrondissement. Unconcerned about trends and flippant about being labeled, Ashpool lets himself be inspired by personal tastes and whims, ranging from the obscure to the ostentatious, importing hard-to-find treasures from Japan, Europe and the US. While pieces by Rick Owens, Lanvin, Swagger or Dr. Romanelli may cost a pretty penny, Pigalle carries its own line of kooky merchandise that encourages impulse buying. Working with artisanal hat makers from the south of France to collaborating with big industry names like Nike proves that Pigalle unapologetically blurs the line between street style and haute couture - and that's something to be thankful for.Show lessRead more
