Le Comptoir de la Gastronomie

A strong passion for good food remains the foundation for the long-standing Le Comptoir de la Gastronomie. Once a part of the bustling 19th century Les Halles, the well-preserved interior retains the charm and style of a bygone era. The shop's rich history attracts visitors daily, but more appealing still are the carefully selected, high-quality products that line the shelves. Le Comptoir de la Gastronomie has everything from wine to mustard, and foie gras to cassoulet. Known particularly for their preserved fish, the smoked salmon is popular amongst customers. Most of the inventory is produced in France, but the shop also has a decent selection of Norwegian and Italian goods thanks to a philosophy of offering the best of the best no matter its geographic origin. To ensure that this is met, everything is carefully selected and tasted for quality. Under the current ownership of Dominique Loï, the company has evolved from wholesale supplier to a store that caters to retailers and individuals alike. Loï's addition of a bistro area has increased tourist traffic to the shop's Rue Montmartre location, making Le Comptoir de la Gastronomie a destination for tasting authentic French dishes and seasonal plates as well as a market for amateur chefs to find what they need in order to make the recipes at home.Show lessRead more
