Galignani

Entering Galignani is like jumping back in time --- to 1801, to be exact, which is the year that Italian Giovanni Antonio Galignani left Venice for Paris to open a bookshop and reading room specializing in English books. With a strong legacy rooted in the printing and publishing business, Galignani has been in the family for six generations, and is practically a Parisian institution for both anglophones and French speakers alike. Galignani sits right in the historic center of the city, on Rue de Rivoli, in the sam location it’s had since 1856. Inside, a sumptuous selection of titles are arranged on dark wooden shelves dating back to 1930. English book seekers will be overwhelmed by the collection of fiction, non-fiction, politics and history tomes, and any art appreciator will find the Fine Art department top-notch. If you're stuck for reading inspiration, head towards the staff, whose knowledge and counsel demonstrate their love of the written word. Books don't come cheap here, but the experience of picking one up from what is considered the oldest English bookshop in the continent is well worth it. If a particular title eludes you, it's possible to place a special order and have it delivered to you anywhere in the world.Show lessRead more
