If you live in New York City, chances are good that you’ve already heard of Zabar’s. From modest beginnings in the 1930s the shop has grown into a New York landmark—it’s listed in almost every major guidebook to the city, and each week tour buses stop and release customers eager to sample the fabled coffee, smoked fish, and prepared foods. From its establishment until today Zabar’s is family owned and operated. The founding Zabar’s were pioneers in the specialty food business, and the current operators have expanded into two floors across half a block. The first floor is filled with an incredible selection of food, including a large cheese section, full bakery and a mixture of local and imported products spanning produce to spices. The second level contains an amazing selection of housewares, offering everything from knives to cookware. The shop is open daily, and the inventory can be browsed and purchased online as well as in person. Throughout its long history Zabar’s has established a tradition of providing high quality products at a reasonable price, and it continues to do so today.Show lessRead more
