Welcome Shoppe

In her words, Robin Weiss “loves the random.” It’s a good thing, because the opening of her Manhattan store, Welcome Shoppe, was more the result of a serendipitous alignment of circumstances than anything else. Since finding the space and opening the shop in 2012, Weiss has curated a selection of what she describes as “special things that are hard to find,” and specializes in small and independent designers. She loves the research and discovery of unique pieces, and the process of nurturing young designers to watch them grow and evolve - some of her relationships go back years and have endured through her time as a stylist in LA and an owner of Butter, a women’s clothing boutique in Brooklyn. Welcome Shoppe is one of the city's smaller boutiques, meaning that each item has been hand-selected and carefully considered. In addition to clothing, scarves, bags and trinkets, you’ll find a collection of distinctive jewelry and accessories. Weiss carries local brands as much as possible, but also offers international designers from Asia and Europe to appeal to the interesting and diverse clientele that populate the neighborhood. In the sometimes cutthroat retail environment of New York, Welcome Shoppe is a breath of fresh air with an owner who appreciates craftsmanship, understands design and, “Just wants to have fun!”  Show lessRead more

As chain stores fill the streetscape the world over, this project is a celebration of the independent retailer. All stores featured on Shopikon have been hand-picked by our editors who have visited thousands of stores, and only the best of the bunch make it into our guide. We evaluate stores based on product selection, atmosphere, dedication to their specialty, and overall shopping experience, making sure that they are all worth your trip!
