The Sweet Life

The Lower East Side has seen its share of change since the early 80’s, but there is one constant that Sam Greenfield, owner of the landmark chocolate and gift shop, The Sweet Life, can depend on: people will always love candy. This treat boutique has been distributing an eclectic, global assortment of edibles since opening its doors 1982, and operated under the original owners until 2006, when Greenfield proudly took over the company. Their motto that “anything can be dipped in chocolate,” attracts tourists and locals alike, who come for The Sweet Life’s own in-house, sugary concoctions including their signature “softy pops”, a lollipop variation made of chocolate covered marshmallows. Besides sweet, sried fruits, nuts, coffee, loose tea, and unique spreads are stacked from floor to ceiling amongst self-serve jars where shoppers can scoop up a mix-and-match assortment of their choosing. The Sweet Life has also become a go-to for those who love to entertain as a unique place to design a candy “bar” for catered events. So many goodies in one place are enough to make anyone feel like a kid in a candy store, but if all the choices seem overwhelming, the knowledgeable staff is happy to help customers please their taste buds.Show lessRead more
