The Chocolate Room

Everything here is fabulously chocolate: drinks, cakes, magazines, and dark chocolate brown curtains on the windows. The Chocolate Room is chocolate to its core. It’s like a childhood dreamland, but in a sophisticated grown-up cafe setting. Owners John Payson and Naomi Josepher opened their Fifth Avenue shop in Park Slope in 2005, then added a Court Street location three years later. Payson and Josepher started out as dessert-loving artists before going professional with their chocolate cravings. “We have fans of all ages from 3 to 90,” said Josepher. “Some love our chocolate caramel popcorn. Others love our cupcakes, cookies, and brownies. Some love our confections, and don't even realize that we have a sit down dessert cafe. Some only come in for our fresh mint chip ice cream, our brownie sundaes, or our signature chocolate layer cake. It's a fun place to work, and own, and everyday we see lots of happy faces.”Show lessRead more

As chain stores fill the streetscape the world over, this project is a celebration of the independent retailer. All stores featured on Shopikon have been hand-picked by our editors who have visited thousands of stores, and only the best of the bunch make it into our guide. We evaluate stores based on product selection, atmosphere, dedication to their specialty, and overall shopping experience, making sure that they are all worth your trip!
