Still House

Inspired by a fascination with three-dimensional objects and a background in sculpture, in 2011 Urte Tylaite opened Still House – a cool, calm nexus where nature mingles with contemporary design. A storefront not far from the infamous St. Mark’s Place in the East Village - with its mixed vibe of arts, grit and sophistication - seemed the perfect spot to sell an eclectic product assortment at diverse price points. Inside, a vase from a Brooklyn-based glassblower sits on a shelf next to a piece of rock from Arizona. Other unique offerings include gold plated pewter bird feet by Swallow, hologram postcards sourced from Berlin, an antique Chinese calligraphy brush, bowls made from strips of black clay by Thaddeus Wolfe, and candles in the shape of cherries and pebbles. There is a large selection of jewelry by Silva/Bradshaw, who also collaborated on the interior design of the store, which is made from colorful 3D computer-drawn images, while more basic items like leather pouches and iPad cases are also available. New Yorkers generally don’t have the luxury of space, but that doesn’t mean we can’t fill our space with luxurious, curious objects, and Still House is a great place to find them.Show lessRead more
