Spring grows from the minds of Anna Cosentino and Steve Butcher, a husband-and-wife artist duo. The couple, who is deeply entrenched in New York City’s art scene – she in fashion and photography, he in painting and textiles – had initially wanted a place where they could exhibit artists they know. Spring has since sprung into a vibrant exhibition space that features four carefully themed shows per year. The goal of each exhibition is, in the duo’s own words, “to make people look and think again and shed new light” on old objects and ideas. Around Valentine’s Day, for example, Spring featured dainty dandelion lamps which literally shed new light on a familiar flower. Each lamp was comprised of one small LED light and hundreds of real dandelion seeds that were carefully affixed to the bulb. Although Spring is officially an exhibition space, most everything is for sale, which makes it a great place to find unique gifts. But don’t be surprised if the stock is different every time; Spring is constantly evolving, as Cosentino and Butcher are perpetually searching for new talent.Show lessRead more
