Self Edge

Self-Edge started in San Francisco’s Mission District in 2006, and three years later they set up shop in Manhattan’s Lower East Side on Orchard Street. Carrying a line of tough, raw, unwashed denim made for the owner to break in over time, this isn’t your average jean shop. Self-Edge brings to the U.S. the Japanese ideal of jeans, using high quality production the way garments used to be made, unlike the mass produced fare you’ll find elsewhere. Men shopping for their first real pair of jeans as well as men in their 70s looking for denim the way they wore it as young men come here for hardcore Japanese brands like Iron Heart and Strike Gold. Self-Edge boasts a strong customer base that stems from motorcycle and rockabilly culture, as both have an appreciation for vintage American garments. The cut of the denim, however, is modern – giving you the best of both worlds.Show lessRead more

As chain stores fill the streetscape the world over, this project is a celebration of the independent retailer. All stores featured on Shopikon have been hand-picked by our editors who have visited thousands of stores, and only the best of the bunch make it into our guide. We evaluate stores based on product selection, atmosphere, dedication to their specialty, and overall shopping experience, making sure that they are all worth your trip!
