Seaport Flowers

We all know that fate can often lend a hand, but sometimes it grabs you by the collar. That was the case for Amy Gardella, owner of Seaport Flowers. Although her background is in art and education, Gardella’s greatest passion has always been design, which came in handy when she worked in flower shops to put herself through college. By the 1990s, Gardella went from working at Seaport Flowers to owning it. Since then, the shop has become a Brooklyn Heights institution, known for its stunning arrangements. Exotic, imported flowers come in daily from places like Holland, South Africa, and New Zealand. Even so, Gardella keeps prices affordable. Spectacular fuchsia orchids, which bloom for about four weeks, were $20. Other floral treasures included a multitude of garden roses, their perfumed scent hanging in the air. Giant artichokes and Coulter Pine Cones from California also caught our eye, but the floral selection is constantly changing. A recent move to its new Henry Street location offers more space and a garden, making this botanical jewel ever more fragrant.Show lessRead more
