Sara Japanese Pottery

Opened in 1990, this unassuming storefront stocks a vast array of fine pottery and pieces in lacquer and metal, all domestic and imported from far-flung places like Japan and various countries in Europe. Sara Japanese Pottery fits an impressive stock of great pieces into their tiny Upper East Side space, where you’ll find classic ceramic tea ceremony service sets along with chic lacquer trays from Kyoto, Japan, and delicate glasses from Tokyo. There are surprises around every corner, such as beautiful hanging vases, stocky, primitive-looking iron boxes, unique chopsticks and cutlery, and cloth napkins in designs inspired by traditional patterns. Sara Japanese Pottery is a great place to buy ceramic and glassware essentials and stylish everyday tableware, but it’s also a fantastic destination for some unexpectedly artistic gifts. Occasional events, like a recent evening of food, sake, and handcrafted pottery designed by Kazu Oba, also make Sara Japanese Pottery a welcomed addition to the neighborhood.Show lessRead more

    ABOUT US

As chain stores fill the streetscape the world over, this project is a celebration of the independent retailer. All stores featured on Shopikon have been hand-picked by our editors who have visited thousands of stores, and only the best of the bunch make it into our guide. We evaluate stores based on product selection, atmosphere, dedication to their specialty, and overall shopping experience, making sure that they are all worth your trip!
