When the bustling Middle Eastern neighborhood in midtown that housed his original store was displaced by construction in 1948, Charlie Sahadi took his business to Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn’s Cobble Hill. Today, Sahadi’s is a Brooklyn staple, as is Sahadi himself, who is dedicated to helping customers every day. While much of Sahadi’s stock is still shipped directly from Lebanon and surrounding countries, the store’s inventory has grown to include an increasing variety of culinary favorites. Now, along with its rightfully famous fruit and nut counter and tasty Middle Eastern products like Hazer Baba Turkish Delight, you’ll also find wasabi peas and French cheeses. Sahadi’s is at once an upscale specialty store and a neighborhood grocery, and it has the energy of both: it’s both epicurean and frenetic. During the holidays, Sahadi’s dedicates a special section of the store to its gift basket business and the friendly staff pays extra attention to helping you customize your own sumptuous gift. Stop by to fill your fridge, make a picnic, or get a gift; it’s worth it just to see Sahadi in action.Show lessRead more
