Rolling Orange

Rolling Orange has none of the attitude of most city bike shops. In fact, the attitude of its owners is quite the opposite: “Slower is better.” Rolling Orange is helmed by Ad Hereijgers and Brunhilde Vergouwen, a duo armed with possibly the best qualification for operating a bike shop: they’re Dutch. “Bikes are in the Dutch DNA. We are bikes,” says Hereijgers. They are also incredibly warm and welcoming. In 2010, Ad Hereijgers, the owner took his urban planning career to the streets, literally, and opened a bicycle shop in Cobble Hill. The store regularly stocks three lines of bikes, Gazelle, Batavus, De Fietsfabriek (“The Bike Factory”), and occasionally add others. Gazelle and Batavus are urban transportation bikes made for running daily errands, so they come with plenty of options for baskets to handle whatever you’ve planned for dinner. De Fietsfabriek manufactures cargo bikes, which means you can transport your children, your groceries and office stuff all in one go. The bikes are beautifully designed, the prices are what you’d expect, and they actually encourage you to test drive your new bike before you purchase it. Let Rolling Orange show you New York in an entirely new light; you might realize that slower really is better.Show lessRead more

    ABOUT US

As chain stores fill the streetscape the world over, this project is a celebration of the independent retailer. All stores featured on Shopikon have been hand-picked by our editors who have visited thousands of stores, and only the best of the bunch make it into our guide. We evaluate stores based on product selection, atmosphere, dedication to their specialty, and overall shopping experience, making sure that they are all worth your trip!
