A few years ago, Rusell Boyle decided he needed a break from the hustle and bustle of New York. He moved to Kansas City to focus on his artwork, but as fate would have it he ended up designing the look and feel of a dry goods store. After residents started to take notice of his creative window displays he realized he had found a passion, and moved back to Brooklyn to open RePOP, a vintage gallery featuring unique furniture, home decor items and whimsical novelties. Each piece in the expansive shop has been hand-picked by Russell from locations across the country and transported back to New York, creating what he calls a “constant collage of vintage items” and a “conversational atmosphere” in the store, something akin to “walking into a wonderland.” Beyond the items for sale, RePOP offers a range of services including interior design and home rearrangement.Show lessRead more

As chain stores fill the streetscape the world over, this project is a celebration of the independent retailer. All stores featured on Shopikon have been hand-picked by our editors who have visited thousands of stores, and only the best of the bunch make it into our guide. We evaluate stores based on product selection, atmosphere, dedication to their specialty, and overall shopping experience, making sure that they are all worth your trip!
