If you want to be on trend, be sure to check out Rabbits. Since opening the the Williamsburg boutique in 2004, Saori Kuno has focused on finding what’s in season and in style, and bringing the vintage version of it to Brooklyn - often from her trips to Europe, Asia and around the United States. It's a true vintage shop, stuffed with racks of patterns and textures, rows of shoes and a riot of jewelry. She doesn’t carry anything “just because it’s old,” and tends to tire of styles quickly, so the inventory is frequently updated. Perhaps that’s what keeps the broad range of shoppers that visit Rabbits coming back for more. Kuno describes the clientele as a diverse bunch, ranging from professionals to tourists and teens to old timers, but of course the uniting thread is that “they’re all very fashionable.” The owner draws from her background working in fashion in her native Japan to ensure that the shop is always connected to the runway and offers an outfit or accessory that appeals to everyone who comes in the door. As chain stores fill the streetscape the world over, this project is a celebration of the independent retailer. All stores featured on Shopikon have been hand-picked by our editors who have visited thousands of stores, and only the best of the bunch make it into our guide. We evaluate stores based on product selection, atmosphere, dedication to their specialty, and overall shopping experience, making sure that they are all worth your trip!
