R & Company

R & Company was founded in 1997 by two young design mavens named Zesty Meyers and Evan Snyderman. Setting up shop in Williamsburg before it was trendy to do so, the duo's goal was to share their passion for 20thcentury design with anyone who would listen. These days, that's a lot of people. The last ten years have seen an explosion of interest in mid-20th century furniture, and not just for big names like Charles and Ray Eames or Alvar Aalto. At least part of this recent wave of enthusiasm can be attributed to R & Company, which has been in Tribeca now for over a decade. From its Franklin Street location, the gallery cum design archive has been hosting five exhibitions a year on average. Among other things, the purpose of these exhibitions is to give everyone a chance to appreciate the pieces, which are always handmade by designers from North and South America, Europe, Asia and Africa. For all of its efforts over the years, R & Company has repeatedly garnered attention from numerous design publications, including Elle Décor and Architectural Digest. Referring to the popular R Gallery vernissage events, Wallpaper wrote that, “the gallery regularly attracts huge crowds to their openings and is not only a fixture of downtown Manhattan, but global design art in general.” But don't take their word for it.
