McNulty’s has supplied New York City’s West Village with fine teas and specially roasted coffee beans from around the world for than a century, opening its doors for business in 1895. Beloved by New Yorkers, the Christopher Street shop maintains its Old World atmosphere with original antique scales, tea bins, and a tin ceiling with pre-electricity gas lighting pipes still peeking out. “It’s sort of a tea and coffee museum,” said David Wong, whose family purchased the shop in 1980. McNulty’s coffee comes from 40 different roasters and its tea selection is refined and authentic, sometimes even affected by changing weather patterns in tea producing regions. McNulty’s supplies customers with new teas and helps them learn how they are produced. In the 1990s, they received a helping hand from the high-end coffee business, which introduced more people to fine, specialty beans. “The difference is, they sell by the cup, and we sell by the pound,” Wong said. Come by for the original flavors and stick around long enough to see a bit of New York history.Show lessRead more
