Main Drag Music

Williamsburg may receive a lot of flak for its perceived haughtiness, but there are those people that prove the difference. Take, for example, the easy-going staff of its best music shop, Main Drag. Always engaging and helpful, they know their gear and discuss everything from the basics of strings and drumheads, to tube amps and effects pedals. Main Drag’s growth has mirrored that of the neighborhood and its popular music scene, changing locations several times. Karl Myers’ guitar-based operation first opened in 1997, before partnering with David Schulte and adding drum specialist John Fell. Today Main Drag’s spacious digs serve its full-service repair shop, handling a variety of guitars, basses, drums, amps and keyboards. Besides necessities like sticks, strings, and cables, the shop also stocks vintage gear, a number of customized instruments, and an impressive array of electronics. Main Drag even contains two sound proof rooms for testing gear, offering some musicians heaven on Earth while saving others from the sometimes tedious 4-minute guitar solo. In reference to the neighborhood scene's explosion, Schulte noted how bizarre, yet satisfying it has been to see gear and bands they service on late-night television. But regardless of whether music is your hobby or your profession, Main Drag treats customers as peers.Show lessRead more
