Normally, one is told to keep his or her shoes off tabletops, but Leffot owner Steven Taffel ignores that age-old dictum of common courtesy. Then again, all the shoes that cover Taffel’s table are new, and the kind of fine footwear you don't need to hide out of sight. A former Prada man, Taffel opened his unique “dining room concept” store in 2008. Credit goes to his wife, Hiroko, for designing both the store’s layout and its logo (featuring the Japanese motto "Numquam Jactate", “Never Boast”). They took an alternate spelling of their name and reversed it for the moniker, then placed a large, low table in the middle of the store upon which to display the goods. Seat yourself in one of the white sheet-draped chairs along the store’s perimeter, and then have a go at the buffet. The brands Leffot carries represent an array of finely crafted wares by shoemakers from the U.S., England and France, but a loafer made in Maine marks the couple’s first foray into developing their own line. In addition, Leffot stocks accessories like hand-made bags, fine leather billfolds, and knit caps.Show lessRead more
