La Petite Coquette

How appropriate that the creation story of East Village lingerie boutique La Petite Coquette is a bodice-ripper. Owner Rebecca Apsan had a beau with a habit of tearing her lingerie in the throes of passion, an expensive practice that led her to open her own shop in 1979. The attitude at La Petite Coquette is as flirtatious, charming, and witty as Apsan’s tale of its beginning. The shop stocks lingerie ranging from basic cotton panties to delicate, light-as-air nightgowns and blush-inspiring pieces that look like they came straight from a bordello (riding crop to match, if you please). Shopping for lingerie in a small boutique rather than in a large department store is alluring, especially when seeking a little privacy. Apsan’s staff offers spot-on customer service without being pushy in an atmosphere that never feels stuffy. La Petite Coquette’s loyal following expects the unexpected in doses that are equally sexy, flirty, and elegant and this shop definitely delivers.Show lessRead more
