Kalustyan’s was opened by the eponymous K. Kalustyan in 1944 to cater to an underserved Indian community in New York City. The shop has come a long way since its first days of selling spices and other groceries in bulk: today Kalustyan’s carries products from over 70 different countries and has grown into over 4,000 square feet of store space. When it was founded, Kalustyan’s was the only shop in New York to carry Near and Far East products, making it a landmark for many ethnic communities. Today it is just as well known, but to a diversified clientele that includes top-notch chefs, cookbook authors and the media. The shop specializes in spices and seasonings—if a spice exists, they should have it, and the spices are ground and blended in the store to ensure quality and precision. In addition to the huge range of groceries including dried fruit, grains and teas, there is a small cafe serving delicious foods prepared in the shop’s kitchen. Kalustyan’s offers an immense range of delights and delicacies and prides itself on providing the best quality for the price.Show lessRead more
