Greenwich Letterpress

It’s becoming less common to find families passing trade skills to multiple generations, yet sisters Beth Salvini and Amy Salvini-Swanson have defied this trend—and put a twist on a family tradition—when they opened Greenwich Letterpress in 2006. Printing has been in the Salvini family for three generations—even mom sells her wares in the shop—but what really sets Greenwich Letterpress apart is its artistic aesthetic combined with a crafty vibe. Not only can fellow crafters get in on the process by designing customized creations, they’ll be charmed by the old-fashioned results. And while many modern print shops consist of a desk in front of a print machine, Greenwich Letterpress’s production space is in back, out of view, and its bright, sunny retail space invites customers to admire the beautiful handiwork. The sisters both have art/design backgrounds, which easily enable their focus on beautiful paper goods. Besides custom-printed invitations, place cards, and notices, Greenwich Letterpress houses an extensive selection of greeting cards, notepads, and journals.Show lessRead more

As chain stores fill the streetscape the world over, this project is a celebration of the independent retailer. All stores featured on Shopikon have been hand-picked by our editors who have visited thousands of stores, and only the best of the bunch make it into our guide. We evaluate stores based on product selection, atmosphere, dedication to their specialty, and overall shopping experience, making sure that they are all worth your trip!
