Global Table

In 1996, after a decade of working as a fashion stylist and editor for magazines like Glamour and Elle, Nathalie Smith found she’d lost her taste for publishing. However, just as her passion for ceramics and tableware was intensifying, she noticed a surge in stateside popularity for European ceramics that were unavailable domestically. To serve that need, Smith opened Global Table on Sullivan Street in 1996 and began stocking one Paris-based line as its cornerstone. The store was an immediate success. Smith has an eye for tableware that showcases clean lines and interesting organic shapes in materials from all over the world. Every item is not only a thing of beauty, but each is reasonably priced, so customers range from neighborhood regulars to interior designers. Smith’s philosophy to simply buy what she loves is a pretty safe bet after years as a fashion tastemaker, and we think you’ll love her selections too.Show lessRead more
