Ellen Christine Couture Millinery

Ellen Christine Colon-Lugo, whose hats are consistently featured on models and actors in magazines like Vogue and W, opened Ellen Christine Millinery in 1995. To step into the store, is to step into a vibrant menagerie of antique textures and bold, modern styles for men and women. It is easy to understand why Ellen Christine describes herself as an artist rather than a merchant. She is a vibrant woman herself, clutching her dog Sam while speaking passionately about how hats were a form of emancipation for Edwardian women. For her, wearing hats is about conquering your fear and fulfilling your fantasies. Ellen Christine first knew she wanted to be a milliner when, as a Catholic school girl, she was required to wear hats in church. After completing her masters and doctoral degrees in costume history, Ellen Christine worked as a stylist for stage productions like Beauty and the Beast. Her hats, which are mostly made by hand in the backroom of her store, are often made to order, either for individual clients or specialty collections and boutiques in the U.S., and Japan. At Ellen Christine's, it's time to turn your fantasies into reality.Show lessRead more
