Economy Candy

We asked Jerry Cohen, owner of Economy Candy, if his store specialized in anything in particular. “Happiness,” he said, “people come here to feel good.” Judging from the exuberance of the customers we met during our visit, Jerry's laconic reply felt spot on. In fact, it's hard not to get all giddy when you come to Economy Candy. The gumball machines, the self-serve section, the jars brimming with color…it all contributes to an old-time candy store flair that one would expect from a place that's been around since 1937, the year Jerry's father opened shop. This place also has a lot of candy. From classics like peppermint sticks, Lemonheads and Atomic Fireballs to imported goodies like chocolate from Milka and those gorgeously-packaged sweets from Pastiglie Leone, Economy Candy's selection will make your head spin. Jerry, whose son will take over Economy Candy when he retires, said that he has seen several generations of customers come through his store. This is definitely the kind of place that inspires loyalty. Come for a visit and start your own legacy.Show lessRead more
