Drama Book Shop

It’s safe to say that there is no other bookstore in New York City that does what Drama Bookshop does. Privately owned since its inception as a street stand in 1917, Drama Bookshop now stocks one of the largest collections of theatrical writing in the United States, if not the world. Its owners pride themselves in the shop’s contemporary theater selection, often assisting international directors in finding the newest, hottest, and latest in American playwriting. In addition to helping directors, employees of Drama Bookshop often find themselves assisting actors and other interested professionals and hobbyists alike. And since they read often an excess of 200 plays a year, you’d be hard-pressed to ask them for something they haven’t heard about, whether it’s a specific monologue or a rare one-act. Drama Bookshop’s knowledgeable and passionate staff is more than happy to help you. The store also runs a resident children’s theater company, the Striking Viking Pirates, and a black box theater in the basement is available to rent by up-and-coming companies. On off nights, staff members use the space to host popular Open Mic events featuring local comedians.Show lessRead more
