When Brad Schmidt and Raul Arevalo found their niche in menswear for American-made casual, they decided to "go for it." Noticing a need for clothing that struck a balance between over-the-top urban chic and rugged coal miner industrial, Cadet was born to bridge the gap. Arevalo drew on his extensive background in fashion, including a degree from F.I.T. in menswear design and years working with high-end brands, to design a collection of men's apparel that they began to manufacture in their Bushwick, Brooklyn factory. Schmidt fused his business know-how with Arevalo's style and the brand moved into a brick and mortar Williamsburg location in 2011. Since establishing the flagship store, Cadet has expanded into two additional Manhattan locations, all catering to savvy city dwellers who appreciate functional, American-made clothing. Cadet describes itself as a "post-war military academy inspired" brand, and mixes uniform elements with off-duty casual and classic pieces to appeal to a brand range of fashion-conscious customers.
