Blue in Green

After spending many years in garment manufacturing and many years in Japan, Gordon Heffner and Yuji Fukushima opened Blue in Green. Located on Greene Street and specializing in Japanese denim, this south Soho gem is a must for any true denim connoisseur. If that sounds like you, then you probably already know the big difference between the way the iconic blue fabric is woven in Japan versus the United States: the denim boom never exploded in Japan the way it did here, so artisan looms, which work with wooden shuttles and produce narrower pieces of fabric, were never replaced with massive, industrial machines. In Japan, the craft of weaving and dyeing the textile has been preserved, along with the artisan approach to the making of jeans. This is evidenced by all of the brands on sale in Blue in Green, and the knowleadable staff will gladly enlighten you on the finer details their products. Some button-downs, jackets, and accessories are also available to go with your new legwear. The finishing touch - the hemming to perfect length - is done right here in the store and while you wait you can marvel at the artwork or flip through a book about the world of indigo dyeing.Show lessRead more
