Assembly New York

Where to begin with Assembly? Literally that may be the first thought you have when you walk through and wonder what to try on first. Exciting textures will have you drifting slowly through the store touching every item, stopping to covet graphic silk blazers by Risto or floral print cashmere knits by Jonathan Saunders. The store features menswear and womenswear, and surprisingly enough, is proficient in finding great looks for both sexes. Long cotton dresses and crocheted knits in earth tones are a no-brainer, with a selection ranging from chic and simple looks by Raquel Allegra to vintage finds like Issey Miyake’s now-defunct Plantation line. For men, owner Greg Armas mixes his own pieces (Assembly’s line is designed and produced in house) with classic shirting, worn-in leather jackets, and buttery soft leather boots. Canvas drapes and wooden displays are the perfect compliments to chain jewelry and eyewear by Illesteva. Like we said, good luck figuring out where to begin.Show lessRead more

As chain stores fill the streetscape the world over, this project is a celebration of the independent retailer. All stores featured on Shopikon have been hand-picked by our editors who have visited thousands of stores, and only the best of the bunch make it into our guide. We evaluate stores based on product selection, atmosphere, dedication to their specialty, and overall shopping experience, making sure that they are all worth your trip!
